Bec Almost didn’t walk through the door

6 years later, She Can’t imagine life without Charge

At 43, Bec had spent decades loving sport. When life got hard, a single CrossFit class — and the community inside it — helped her find her way back.

“It totally changed my life, joining CrossFit. All of a sudden I was looking forward to getting up in the morning.”

Watch her story below.

She was active, energetic, always moving — sport had been woven into her identity for as long as she could remember. Then, in the way life sometimes does, something significant knocked her off course. Her motivation disappeared. The version of herself that had always loved moving felt not just distant — she felt gone.

It was her sister-in-law who nudged the first domino. Just a casual invitation: come try a class, no pressure. Bec walked in. She met a coach who made her feel welcome. Something clicked.

That was six years ago. She hasn’t looked back since.

Starting From Zero — And Why That Was the Point

If you’ve ever stood at the door of a CrossFit gym and talked yourself out of going in, Bec understands. She remembers her first overhead squat with absolute clarity.

“I couldn’t even do it with an empty bar. I was trying with just a broomstick and I could barely get into position.”

Pull-ups? Completely off the table. Six years later, both feel like ancient history.

But here’s the thing that made Charge different from anything Bec had tried before: nobody cared where she started. While others were lifting heavy, she was working through the broomstick version — and that was not only acceptable, it was celebrated. The progress was real. It was hers. And it was enough.

“There’s always something you can get better at. And there’s something you’re naturally good at — you can feel good about both. That’s what’s beautiful about it.”

The Coaches Who Changed Everything

Ask Bec what separates Charge from anywhere else she’s trained, and she’ll talk about the coaches. Not as a polite throwaway — with real conviction, the kind that only comes from lived experience.

“You can tell that all of the coaches care so much about coaching, about being the best coach they can be, and also about each individual. You never feel like you’re just somebody in the class that nobody cares about.”

That combination — coaches who genuinely invest, a community that shows up every single time — is what Bec keeps coming back to. No matter which class she walks into, there’s a familiar face. Someone to train alongside. Someone who’ll push her to bring her best.

To Anyone Who Feels Like It’s Too Hard

Bec isn’t telling her story to inspire from a distance. She’s telling it because she knows what the other side feels like — and she wants others to know that getting there is absolutely possible.

Her advice is simple, and she’ll give it to anyone who needs it:

“The best time to start is today. The second best time is tomorrow. Just sign up and do it.”

Charge CrossFit

“Anybody who’s going through hardship, who feels like it’s too hard — hopefully they can look around and see somebody like me. Not only can you do it, but you will be so happy when you did.”
